Description:
A useful addition to seaside gardens since it tolerates very dry conditions and strong, salty winds. It is freely branching, often sprawling, and has fleshy, pale green leaves. The small, five-lobed white flowers appear on only one side of the corolla tube, leading to its popular name: half flower.
Height: 70 cm.
Flowers: all year
Type: TP
Hardy in: zones 10-11 (10C)
Sowing instructions:
The seeds can float for months in the ocean and still germinate after having been in salt water for up to a year. It seems the seeds germinate best after 250 days in salt water. However, it is easy to grow this plant from seed even without a salt water soak. The seeds need to be removed from the flesh before planting. Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours. Plant them about 0.5 cm. deep in a well drained potting mix. Seeds can take up to 3 months to germinate.
Planting instructions: Dry, sandy soil in full sun
